Bottesford Primary School

Our RESPECT Values

Our RESPECT Values are at the core of everything we do at Bottesford CE Primary School. We want all our children to be happy, confident, enthusiastic and kind. We value the many differences that each child and adult bring.

Everyone within our diverse school community is treated equally and provided with the opportunity to reach their full potential. They are supported to grow, flourish and achieve. We encourage our children to aspire, aim high and ‘be their best selves’. Our values apply to all who are part of our Bottesford family. As the children leave our school, they take with them the values that will enable them to become well-rounded, amazing citizens in our world.

We live our values and they are visible and in action all around our school community. They are both explicitly taught and interwoven into our everyday learning and school experiences.

RESPECT is fundamental in developing well-rounded individuals. It is very important foundational factor in the development and maintenance of a healthy learning environment. It is respect that opens space for the development of trust and learning.

Each child is encouraged to respect themselves through being the best that they can be. This means there is an expectation that each child demonstrates 100% effort and commitment towards their learning. It is also essential that we teach the children that RESPECT towards themselves and their learning also incorporates building a sense of pride in how their work is presented.

They are also taught the importance of respecting as well as taking care of the equipment and environment in which they learn. As the children develop, we teach them how important it is in treating those around them equally with respect by showing kindness and valuing each other’s individual differences. RESPECT in this form will build an inclusive environment in which all children can grow, flourish and achieve.

As our understanding of RESPECT increases, it is essential that we recognise the importance of showing respect in how we talk and listen to each other. Developing this positive communication will also develop patience and empathy within our school community.

Developing this positive communication will also develop patience and empathy within our school community. From RESPECT , we promote the essential values that we think will help our children flourish and reach their potential.

R

Resilience: We are resilient. We believe that the more resilient a person is, the less they experience stress as they are equipped to deal with life's pressures. Building resilience helps children to overcome obstacles more easily.

E

Excellence: We strive to become our best selves and reach our potential as learners and responsible citizens of the future. We believe in setting high aspirations, working hard and achieving great success.

S

Self-belief: Self-belief will bring happiness and joy to our lives. The more self-confident we are, the happier we are with ourselves and the more we will enjoy what life has to offer. When confidence is high, we can accept, adapt, learn, gain, and benefit from any situation in life.

P

Perseverance: We believe perseverance is very important to develop because life is full of challenges. It is what helps us get through the difficulties to get to what we want to achieve. We believe it is the act or power of continuing to do something in spite of difficulties.

E

Equality: We recognise and respond fairly to the individual needs and identities of all others. We provide everyone with an opportunity to reach their full potential and have an equal chance to live their life as they choose. We value and promote diversity within our learning community.

C

Courage: Courage involves making good choices in the face of fear or obstacles. It is another term for bravery. Bravery does not mean fearlessness. It means we do not let fear hold us back from exploring new opportunities, taking on new roles and responsibilities, developing our skills, and doing what is right.

T

Trust: We believe that trust is important in developing integrity and in building the importance of honouring our commitments in life. Developing trust in relationships builds confidence, commitment and a sense of safety and security within our community.

As our RESPECT Values form our foundations for our core values, we extend our teachings further through the development of Character Education. Good character education can provide ground rules for life for adults and young people, and it stresses the importance of helping children learn and practice behaviours that reflect universal ethical values. Character education helps children and youth become: Conscious of the right thing to do.
