Geography at Bottesford C.E. Primary School
“Geography is a living, breathing subject, constantly adapting itself to change. It is dynamic and relevant. So many of the world's current issues – at a global scale and locally - boil down to geography, and need the geographers of the future to help us understand them.” Michael Palin
At Bottesford C.E. Primary School we believe that geography should inspire children with a curiosity and fascination, about the world around them, which will remain with them for life.
Intent:
-
We intend for our children to have real life experiences and learn about geography in an active and creative way.
-
Wherever possible, quality cross curricular links will be explored.
-
The planning of learning always begins with the skills and knowledge that needs to be taught and enrichment opportunities as well as opportunities to apply learning are carefully mapped.
-
Children should be equipped with a deep knowledge about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments.
Implementation:
From the local village and its facilities to the volcanos of the world, the children at Bottesford C.E. Primary School will be given opportunities to study each area in detail. Children will also gain a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes. In doing so, children will be encouraged to develop a greater understanding and knowledge of the world, as well as their place in it.
We ensure that our sequenced curriculum provides the children with the opportunity to study their own locality and the wider world. We want geography to be hands on and exciting and provide them with the knowledge and skills they need. Our children are the geographers of the future!

History at Bottesford C.E. Primary School
“I believe that the more you know about the past, the better you are prepared for the future.” Theodore Roosevelt
At Bottesford C.E. Primary School, we work to provide children with a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world.
Intent:
-
We aim to inspire children through well planned, sequenced and engaging history lessons.
-
We want to promote a lifelong love of history where children can see its relevance and can make links with their own life and the lives of others.
-
We want children to be curious and to seek to find answers to their questions regarding history.
Implementation:
We aim to deepen the history learning by making relevant cross- curricula links to English and other subjects, such as art, wherever possible. For example, whilst learning about the Anglo-Saxons children may produce 3D work in art by creating their own Anglo-Saxon hoard items. History lessons will focus on developing and building children’s historical skills and knowledge with children working as historians. We want the children of Bottesford C.E. Primary School to have real life experiences and learn about history in a fun, active and creative way, enhanced by visits and visitors.
Impact: In doing so, we want children to retain the key knowledge in this subject and be able to apply it to their current and future learning.
