STEM - Science
"The important thing is not to stop questioning." Albert Einstein
At Bottesford C.E. Primary School, we believe that this quote underpins our approach to science.
Intent:
- We want all children to feel that they are scientists.
- Encourage children to be inquisitive throughout their time at the school and beyond.
- To develop and nurture a curiosity in our children and a lifelong love and appreciation of the sciences.
- Develop the scientific skills and knowledge which enables them to select and use scientific equipment to collect, collate and interpret results.
Implementation:
We see science as a continually developing subject led by asking questions and solving problems in real life. Through fun, engaging and well sequenced lessons, Science will be taught with arranged topic blocks and cross-curricular links being made wherever possible. Links to quality English texts also help to deepen the knowledge acquired. Children will be provided with problem solving opportunities and practical, hands on learning. This encourages them to ask their own questions and use their developing scientific skills and knowledge to discover answers.
We build upon the learning and skill development of the previous years. We make use of the vast range of skills amongst parents and families to provide fascinating insights into careers in science for everyone. We find out about famous scientists to highlight the important role of science in our own lives.
We are also proud of our award-winning gardening club and extensive school grounds to extend the love of science outside the classroom.
Impact:
Children will have the knowledge, skills and enthusiasm to want to continue to study science and pursue jobs in science.
We truly believe all children are scientists!
